Morning All,

Reminder that today's journal club (Wednesday 11th), at 3:30 in the MOB
Theory Room, we'll be discussing "Observation of the Isovector Giant
Monopole Resonance via the 28Si(10Be,10B∗[1.74 MeV]) Reaction at 100 AMeV" (
https://journals.aps.org/prl/abstract/10.1103/PhysRevLett.118.172501).

Questions:

1. What is the Isovector Giant Monopole Resonance?
2. How does it differ from the other excitation modes mentioned in the
paper?
3. How was the 28Si(10Be,10B∗[1.74 MeV]) reaction used as a filter to
select ΔS=0 events?
4. What was the advantage of using GRETINA for in this experiment?
5. How is the monopole contribution extracted?
6. What possible explanations for the disagreement between experimental and
theoretical cross sections are given?
