Hello fellow data scientists and welcome to the new year!
This semester we will be taking a much more hands-on practical approach to Machine Learning and Data science by taking IBMs "Deep Learning with Python and PyTorch"* on edX:
Link: https://www.edx.org/course/deep-learning-with-python-and-pytorch
This course is free to enroll in and is part of a professional certificate, if you wish to pursue that. According to the website, this course will take 6 weeks total, with a commitment of about 2-4h per week. Afterwards, we will (hopefully) start a project of some sort specifically related to machine learning in physics (I will try to keep you updated on this).
Our first meeting of the new year will be Wednesday January 16 at 3:30 in the theory room where we will be covering material from the first two weeks of the course ('Introduction to PyTorch' and 'Linear Regression'). If someone would like to volunteer to teach this, let me know, otherwise I am happy to do so!
Cheers,
David Livermore
*Note PyTorch does have some sort of support for C++ for those of you that are into that sort of thing.
