Dear Colleagues,

TRIUMF is engaging with BCIT and there is an opportunity to engaging BCIT computing students in projects for 400 hours (fully remote).
The information about the program is below and supposedly there is no charge to the supervisor. If you have a project along the lines described,
please send your proposal directly to Reiner by July 10th he will coordinate which projects to put forward for this first round.

Best regards,

Oliver

Following on the previous discussions with BCIT, I have reached out to BCIT to explore opportunities for a partnership on skills development.

For now I want to make you ware of opportunities for computing projects with BCIT students. Project proposal are due at BCIT on July 30.

BCIT’s Industry Sponsored Student Projects (ISSP)<https://can01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.bcit.ca%2Fcas%2Fissp%2F&data=02%7C01%7CSTELZER-CHILTON%40triumf.ca%7C6b4facb88519402fb17d08d81d3a8bca%7Cc20535109cb34679a2d38f442e03b587%7C1%7C0%7C637291484591812067&sdata=GFzoUSx2lravQy5t5nH0joZbVO2xS5w6FqYIQIX6rV8%3D&reserved=0> program puts Computing students to work on your tech projects.

If you have a project that needs a push to get it jumpstarted, or finished, ISSPs are a low-cost way to go. Tap into the talents of our smart, driven students, in our fully remote format. Check out a recent project story<https://can01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fcommons.bcit.ca%2Fnews%2F2020%2F03%2Fairg-issp%2F&data=02%7C01%7CSTELZER-CHILTON%40triumf.ca%7C6b4facb88519402fb17d08d81d3a8bca%7Cc20535109cb34679a2d38f442e03b587%7C1%7C0%7C637291484591812067&sdata=J8ubZap5AuTVIkZ%2Bu3jbjQ4dPwRONU5UfcRfa9r3nFs%3D&reserved=0>.

What’s in it for industry sponsors (this could be you!):

  * Low-risk, low cost approach to your tech project – participation fee (if project selected): $500, waived for non-profits

  * Possibility of viable computing solutions
  * Meet and try out emerging tech talent
  * Projects accepted throughout the year
  *   Scope: 400 hours

Ideal topics are:

  * DevOps and Networking - automate key areas of your development workflow (CI/CD pipelines, build processes, scripting, etc.) and build your cloud infrastructure; or let our students help scale existing (legacy) software, migrate to cloud, and introduce proper development processes
  * Website Development - conduct a needs analysis to determine which platform is most suitable; create a design proposal including mock-ups, budget, and timeline; and finally, build a fully-functioning website, using the latest JS frameworks
  * Mobile Application Development - select the best technologies (React, native iOS or Android) for creating an application or feature (i.e., a real-time chat function)
  * Machine Learning and Algorithms - create a recommendation engine; spot trends in existing data; identify anomalies in data sets
  * Games - create or update cutting edge 3D games with Unity and C#

We’re currently accepting proposals for the Fall term. The deadline to submit a proposal is July 30. Fill out the submission form now<https://can01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.bcit.ca%2Fcas%2Fissp%2Fisspform.shtml&data=02%7C01%7CSTELZER-CHILTON%40triumf.ca%7C6b4facb88519402fb17d08d81d3a8bca%7Cc20535109cb34679a2d38f442e03b587%7C1%7C0%7C637291484591822065&sdata=B7ACo5P8iGQIawRm%2F3Ih8OPItVw8UYu1jtPrrHZdu5g%3D&reserved=0>.
