<p class="p1"><i>World-Leading Research Infrastructure</i><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="p2"><i>Modern, high-quality research facilities and infrastructure are essential for</i><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="p2"><i>breakthroughs in Canadian research and science. These laboratories and</i><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="p2"><i>research centres are where medical and other scientific breakthroughs are born,</i><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="p2"><i>helping to solve real-world problems and create the economic opportunities of</i><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="p2"><i>the future. World-leading research facilities will attract and train the next</i><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="p2"><i>generation of scientific talent. That’s why, since 2015, the federal government</i><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="p2"><i>has made unprecedented investments in science and technology, at an average</i><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="p2"><i>of $13.6 billion per year, compared to the average from 2009-10 to 2015-16 of</i><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="p2"><i>just $10.8 billion per year. But we can’t stop here.</i><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="p2"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="p2"><i>To advance the next generation of cutting-edge research, Budget 2024</i><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="p2"><i>proposes major research and science infrastructure investments, including:</i><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="p2"><b><i>$399.8 million over five years</i></b><i>, starting in 2025-26, to support
<b>TRIUMF</b>,</i><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="p2"><i>Canada’s sub-atomic physics research laboratory, located on the University</i><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="p2"><i>of British Columbia’s Vancouver campus. This investment will upgrade</i><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="p2"><i>infrastructure at the world’s largest cyclotron particle accelerator,</i><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="p2"><i>positioning TRIUMF, and the partnering Canadian research universities, at</i><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="p2"><i>the forefront of physics research and enabling new medical breakthroughs</i><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="p2"><i>and treatments, from drug development to cancer therapy.</i><o:p></o:p></p>
