Hello, PSD Member!

A reminder that we have our next mixer this Friday May, 2 at 2:30pm online and in the Auditorium!
The agenda and connection information is below.

In-person attendees: Please pre register your attendance https://forms.office.com/r/HxVeuKHHUd .
This information helps us with planning future mixers (the food and drink order specifically), and it also satisfies AP’s requirement of listing attendees when I reconcile the catering bill.

Science Talk Abstract;
Leveraging Water-Cherenkov Experiment Experience for Drinking Water Monitoring

The Water Monitoring System (WMS) developed at TRIUMF is a novel approach to in-situ water-quality monitoring. Initially, it was developed to track the quality of water samples from water Cherenkov neutrino detectors; the system uses several LEDs along with toggleable filters, a UV sterilizer, and a water deionizer to identify the presence and type of contaminants in a water sample. It currently deployed and under operation to monitor the water quality of the Water Cherenkov Test Experiment (WCTE) at CERN; there, the system is used to track the initial purification of the detector’s tank water and is now being utilized to monitor the quality of the water during its normal operation. The WMS has also shown promise as a deployable monitor of water-quality that can be used beyond physics applications in communities with unreliable access to clean water where fast and accurate water monitoring is imperative. Results and interpretations of the first deployment of the system for the WCTE are shown along with future applications and expected efficiencies.

Everybody: WE HAVE A SUBSCRIPTION MAILING LIST! Woohoo! If you’re receiving this email, it’s because your email has been added to the list. If you know someone who hasn’t received this email, please send them this link (https://lists.triumf.ca/mailman/listinfo/physical-sciences) so they can subscribe to receive important division updates and other information, but most importantly, notices of our upcoming mixers 😉

If you wish to be removed from the mailing list, no hard feelings – you can do that at the same link above – but I can’t guarantee you won’t miss out 😉

Hope to see you all there!

Thanks,
Lauren
