Get ready for Science Week 2022!
TRIUMF Science Week 2022<https://meetings.triumf.ca/event/289/> is set to take place once again – this time online and in-person! Our local organizing committee has been hard at work to ensure that this year’s program brings the best of what TRIUMF science has to offer, and we’d like to invite you to participate.
Throughout Science Week, there are several opportunities for students to share their research, network with leading experts in the fields of particle and nuclear physics, molecular and materials sciences, life sciences, accelerator science, scientific computing, and science & technology, and partake in some friendly competition for great prizes. Did we mention there’s also going to be a reception, sporting events and a BBQ?
Read on to learn more about the week’s events!

Virtual Reality Poster Session
July 19 (in-person & remote participation)
What to expect:
This year we’re piloting a brand-new VR poster session event jointly with Emily Carr University. Using cutting-edge technology to allow for broad national and international participation, our goal is to enable participants to share their work and research with session attendees in an online, 3D interactive space.
Anyone with an affiliation to a university or a research lab, working on a project connected to TRIUMF, is invited to participate.
How to participate:
Register for Science Week by June 1, 2022, and indicate your interest in the VR Poster Session in the registration form. Those who register by the deadline will receive further information about their participation in this unique event.
Please note: due to the nature of the event there will be a cap on the number of participants. We will do our best to include as many participants as is possible

Let’s Talk Science Competition
July 20 (in-person & remote participation)
What to expect:
A fast-paced competition to crown the best presentation – you’ll have three minutes and only one prop (a slide, an item, etc.) to deliver a talk on a physics or research-related subject of your choice. Prizes for the best talk and the people’s choice award will be awarded on Friday during the TRIUMF Users Group session.
This event will be kicked off with a TED Talk on gravitational waves by Jess McIvor, UBC PHAS faculty.
How to participate:
Register for Science Week by June 1, 2022 and indicate your interest in the Let’s Talk Science Competition in the registration form.

Panel Discussion, Sports, & BBQ!
July 21 (in-person & remote participation)
What to expect:
Thursday’s program is jam-packed with opportunities for networking with your peers and experts in your field. Our panel discussion, “Roadmap to Careers in Research and Academia” will offer insights on how to navigate through the early stages of the academic and research career path. Attendance for the panel discussion can be in-person or remote, with virtual meeting links sent in advance.
End the day by enjoying some delicious BBQ at UBC Farm and joining members of the TRIUMF community for some friendly games of volleyball and soccer. Don’t miss the opportunity to face off against competitors from across TRIUMF in a winner takes all sporting event!
