Dear colleagues,
On April 4th, the GAPS Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee is inviting women and anyone who identifies as 2SLGBTQIA+ to attend a special EDI discussion hour with Dr. Gwen Grinyer. This event is an opportunity for you connect informally with Dr. Grinyer and learn from her experience as both a physicist and a prominent advocate for women and 2SLGBTQIA+ people in STEM. There will be in-person and virtual options for joining the discussion.
Event details
When: Tuesday April 4, from 10:00 am - 11:00 am
Format: Hybrid
RSVP by: April 3, 12:00 pm
Out of respect for privacy, and recognizing that not everyone feels safe or comfortable being out at work, this event is limited to women and 2SLGBTQIA+ folks. Details regarding the location of the in-person session will only be shared with participants.
How to attend
If you plan to attend, please reply to this message with your name and indicate if you'll be joining in-person or online. The GAPS EDI Committee will follow-up with the specific location for in-person attendees/zoom link for virtual attendees.
About the speaker
Dr. Gwen Grinyer (she/her) is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Regina who researches a wide variety of topics in experimental nuclear physics including the structure of short-lived radioactive nuclei, neutrinoless double beta decay, and nuclear astrophysics. In addition to her physics research, she is a prominent advocate for women and 2SLGBTQ+ people in STEM fields and has done numerous outreach activities across Canada that have focused on visibility and inclusion of underrepresented identities in physics.
