Dear GAPS members,
We've have 3 opportunities/reminders that may tickle your fancy, check out the full details below:
* The TRISEP<https://www.trisep.ca/> annual summer school (particle physics stuff) is coming up for interested participants, June 19th -30th. Registration close June 2nd, but those need financial assistance must register by May 19th.
* The GRIDS<https://grids.triumf.ca/2023/> summer school (detector stuff) is looking for volunteers to help run detector labs, kinda like a TA position. It'll be June 5th - 19th, and you'll get $100 gift card per week as a thank you.
* Grads and postdocs who don't have journal e-access, you can contact the TRIUMF Library chair for access.
Cheers,
Your GAPS
TRISEP School: TRISEP is an annual summer school for graduate students in particle physics of all levels who were already exposed to quantum field theory. The school rotates between TRIUMF, SNOLAB, and the Perimeter Institute, this year the school will be held at PI over June 19-30.
If you might be interested in attending, please take a look here for more details: https://www.trisep.ca/. And feel free to send any questions about the school to me at dmorri at triumf.ca or contact the local organizers directly.
GRIDS school TA: Time period: GRIDS Jun 5 - 19 (school) + set up a week before. The school will feature table top experiments (detector technology), and will need help setting up in the detector lab (4 stations), meson hall (2 stations) and MOB (2 stations). The school will feature lectures in the morning + experiments every day of the summer school (this is where you will help). The time commitment will be 5h in the lab every day, but you can bring your own work as students will be fairly self-sufficient (they need oversight mainly for safety reasons). 2-3 senior researchers will always present in the area if you need help. As a thank you, the organisers will give you $100 per week in gift cards (think Amazon, Starbucks, etc.) Respond to this email by May 19th if you are interested, and we'll put you in touch!
Journal/library access: Grad students and postdocs whose home institution library e-access does not cover all journals needed for their research:
please contact the library chair (presently behr at triumf.ca), state in one sentence your research needs, and ask for UBC Open Athens access. Grad student are probably better off getting e-access through their institution (contact grad asst), but for post-docs, John will organise you to be granted adjunct faculty authorisation.
