Hello GAPS,

We are going to be visited by Dr. Prajval Shastri (she/they), a very accomplished physicist and vice-chair of the UN The International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development (IYBSSD). Her accomplishments include:

  * Astrophysicist specializing in the empirical investigation of giant black holes that are found in the centres of distant galaxies
  * Adjunct Professor, International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research (ICRAR), Australia
  * Emeritus Scientist, Raman Research Institute, India
  *   Vice Chair, IYBSSD2022/23
  * Member of the Women in Physics Working Group IUPAP
  * Founder and past chair of the Gender in Physics Working Group of the Indian Physics Association
  * UN IYBSSYD website for Prajval: https://www.iybssd2022.org/en/dt_team/prajval-shastri/

On Monday the 11th, there will be a high-level panel discussion and we have been invited to form a "Youth Council" to have a platform to share our questions/comments/concerns with the panel and have a bit of the spotlight. We are looking for a diverse group of young researchers who are engaged and want to take on this task. The responsibilities are to meet beforehand for about an hour to draft prepared questions for the panel, and to present at the event. This is an excellent opportunity to have your voice heard by some big-time people from across academic research, industry and policy making. There will be free food and drinks at the reception, and an excellent chance to network!

Panelists:

  * Prof. Prajval Shastri (Vice-Chair, IYBSSD)
