Subject: GAPS committee elections announcement!
tldr:
Join GAPS committee / elect representatives Fri 7/19 @ 3 pm MOB boardroom.
Hello Grads and Postdocs,
Looking to get involved but don't know where to start?
Have some ideas to make the TRIUMF experience better but not sure where to bring them up?
You're all invited to join the Graduate Student & Postdoc Society (GAPS) Committee!
Any grad or postdoc at TRIUMF can join, and you get to decide how much (or little) time you want to dedicate to it.
The committee is made up of about 15 volunteers, and we meet at 3pm on Fridays in the MOB Boardroom - you're all welcome to join!
In about 2 weeks, on Friday July 19th during our meeting we'll hold elections for our chair, vice-chairs and other positions - see below for details on the positions.
These positions are simply a reflection of how volunteer committee members want to spend their time on the committee, and so most of the elections are done by discussion at our meeting. We simply ask that you attend at least two meetings (e.g. next two weeks) to familiarize yourself with the committee before volunteering for a position.
However, you do not need a position to make a difference - feel free to join our meeting whenever if you have an idea for an event or want to spearhead a new initiative.
Some details on elected positions:
Chair: Oversees the committee, organizes meetings (chair needs > 6 months on committee)
Vice-chair, Advocacy: Representing interests of grads & postdocs at TRIUMF
Vice-chair, HR: Liaison with HR for advocacy issues
Vice-chair, Social: Organizing social activities
Vice-chair, Professional Development: Organizing professional development activities
Treasurer: Taking care of our budget
Webpage Maintainer: Developing and updating the GAPS webpage<http://gaps.triumf.ca/who-we-are>
Cookie Monster: Organizing the weekly social hour
Secretary: Taking minutes of committee meetings
We hope to see lots of you there,
Your GAPS
