Hi Everyone,
As part of the TRISEP Summer School, we will be holding a public lecture by Katherine Freese (UT Austin) at Telus World of Science (a.k.a. Science World) at 7:30pm on Monday, July 22.
"TRIUMF is proud to present a special guest lecture on July 22 with Dr. Katherine Freese, author of The Cosmic Cocktail: Three Parts Dark Matter and Professor of Physics at the University of Texas, Austin - as she recounts the hunt for dark matter, from the discoveries of scientists such as Fritz Zwicky and Vera Rubin, who identified the first pieces of evidence for dark matter, to the deluge of data today from satellites, underground laboratories, and the Large Hadron Collider."
Katie is a really big name in dark matter theory. She has done all kinds and of great work in the field, and was one of the first people to figure out the signals from WIMPs in direct detection experiments.
There is no charge to attend the lecture, but you need to register for it here:

We are also looking for volunteers to help run the event. The work involved in fairly minimal - mostly directing people to the lecture hall and their seats - and you will be able to attend the lecture as well. If you would be willing to volunteer, please let me or Oliver know.
Cheers,
David
