I confirm that adding "obsoletes=1" to yum.conf fixes
the seamonkey stuff-up. I am now investigating why this entry
is missing on most machines.

I am not sure I personally want to sign RPMs provided 3rd parties,
even SUN. I certainly do not have the manpower for doing this
each time they issue new rpms.

Yes, we already have this setup and we sign critical scripts and RPMs.

Good for you, but we have to worry about compatibility wider
than "all my machines", we have to stay compatible with machines
at CERN and other labs. So we are trying to stick to vanilla SL
as much as possible.
There is also some mental resistance at running mongrel systems,
even though we have done it in the past, where absolutely required.

Yes, but with Java updates, a big worry is application compatibility,
especially VRVS.

Yes, I have access to RHEL-Extras and we are aware of CentOS.

Yes, I know about this: SL4 installs 64-bit browsers
on 64-bit machines and common 32-bit plugins do not work.
As we have few 64-bit machines used as personal desktops, it had
not been a problem, yet.
