I was asked to write an update on the status of the amanda backup service.
The disk space problem on the amanda machine has been resolved
and the amanda system is now catching up with the accumulated
backlog of backups. It may take it another week or so
to reach a steady state.
Until the steady state is reached, the normal pattern of full
and incremental backups may be upset (*is* upset for many backup
clients) and the backup history may be shorter than the
usual 7 or so days.
The disk space problem was resolved by excluding parts of trshare
from amanda backups. At this time, all user directories
starting with "c", "i", "j", "r" and "y" have been excluded and
are NOT being backed up by amanda. Alternate backup arrangements
have been made for these files, please contact the computing
group to find out what they are.
We are presently planning for a capacity upgrade of the amanda
system. Additional capacity will permit backups of all of trshare.
