Dear All,
We received a new workstation with an Intel DG965SS motherboard,
an IDE-DVD drive, 4 GB or RAM and a SATA hard disk.
We could not install any SL 5 version on it, though live CDs (Knoppix,
SL 5 i386 Live) worked well. The installation process was extremely slow -
eventually we installed a minimal system, but everything was slow during
and after boot-up, no matter what combination of kernel options we set
at startup.
The BIOS version on the machine was originally at 1687 - last night we
tried the latest version (1719). This did not help.
Finally we found some forum postings about this generation of Intel
boards (DP965LT, DG965SS, DG965RY, DG965PZ, DG965OT, DG965MS, DG965MQ,
DQ963FX, DQ963GS) and 64-bit systems with >= 4 GB RAM. 64-bit Vista
users with similar configurations apparently have problems too.

One needs to downgrade the Bios on this motherboard to get it to
work. (we went down to version 1669)
cheers,
