Hi, Fred - I do not think I have any access to geant4 and lin26, but both machines
still report information to ladd00 at http://ladd00.triumf.ca/triumf_nodeinfo/config.html

I see that the two machines are running SL4.1 and SL4.2, last updates are shown
as installed in February.

As we know, SL4 is no longer supported by anybody (me included) and there are
no updates issues by RH and SL.

As I understand the very last updates from SL effectively brought
all SL4 releases to the level of SL4.9, the last SL4 release from RH.

So if you again fix the machines by hand, I doubt thay will break again
by external updates - because there will be none.

But really, you should retire both double-obsolete (SL4 and no 64-bit support) machines
and get some current technology hardware running 64-bit SL6. This will
bring you into the same century as the rest of us.

(For hardware recommendation, I am presently testing a Intel socket 2011 system,
similar to what I recommended to AAPS/Geotomo, who have 2 systems running and
are greatly impressed with the performance).
