You can run "ntpq -p" to see the status of the ntpd time sync server.

The column "reach" should read "377" for at least one time server
and the column "offset" is the time offset from that time server
in seconds (in think. the ntpd/ntpq documentation is very sketchy,
maybe why it is replaced by systemd in the "new linux").
