Hi Everyone,

I hope all of you are doing well. The lack of weekly notices to the run group has been a symptom of adapting to this new normal. The shift to bouncing between family needs, home duties, work, and some down time can leave little time for other interests. Some things don't get done and some things that I really enjoy such as preparing the running notices slipped to the side.

Thanks to Anders Mjos for keeping the interest in the group going. The Teams based Running Group Virtual lunch this Friday is a great idea. Hope to see many of you there.

Are you keeping active?
I have read many articles lately stating that regular daily exercise is a significant benefit for maintaining both physical and mental health. Okay, everyone in this group knows that already however it is significantly more important now as we cope with the higher levels of stress in our lives.
The minimum level of exercise you should strive for is 30 minutes per day of moderate to vigorous activity. This can be accomplished many ways and running is one of my favourites. Walking is fine but it should be a walk with purpose. I do follow many of you on Strava (not stalking) and I am very impressed by the various activities you engage in. Kudos to you.

Weekly training.
Although I don't have a specific workout for you to follow here is a basic outline.
Do three workouts per week with one consisting of shorter hard intervals, another with longer moderate efforts, and the 3rd one being a long endurance effort. These can be a run, a bike ride, a swim, a paddle, a hike, or most anything that gets your heart beating faster - video games do not count.
On the other days of the week just get out a do some physical activity. I think gardening and house cleaning might count if you work at it hard enough although Strava doesn't categorise these.
And don't forget to follow TRIUMF's Remote Wellness Teams site.

Continue to take good care of yourselves. I am really looking forward to running with you again some day.

Cheers,
Rob
