Title: Highly excited nuclear states at low laboratory energies.

Abstract: Deuteron induced reactions at astrophysically relevant energies on 2H, 6Li and 10B lead to relatively high excitation energies of the corresponding compound nuclei. In this energy region the resonance density is not yet high enough to apply statistical methods, but the interference among the resonances and with the direct reaction contribution dominates the cross section and can completely change the angular distributions far outside the resonance region. These new interference calculations and our own low-energy measurements of the S factor for the 6Li(d,a)4He and 2H(d,p) reactions allow a more precise determination of the electron screening potential. In a metallic environement, the screening potential for 2H+d is unexpectedly high.

Stimulants available 15 minutes before the talk.
