Title: Fermion localization in compact extra-dimensions

Abstract: We will review the mechanism to localize Kaluza-Klein fermion modes along one compact extra-dimension. If the nontrivial scalar background required for such localization comes from a typical phi^4 theory in 4+1 dimensions, it is possible to find the spectrum of the scalar and the fermion Kaluza-Klein modes. We will also show how the profile of these modes is localized, depending on the size of the extra dimension and on the yukawa coupling between the 5D scalar and the 5D fermion. A very interesting result is the appearance of a first KK fermion excitation, whose mass can decouple from the scales of the problem (i.e. it can be arbitrarily light). We thus have a Constrained Fat Brane setup with very interesting possibilities both in model building and phenomenology.

Stimulants available 15 minutes before the talk.
