Title: Multi-channel digital delay/trigger system

Abstract: As a typical application example in the field of DAQ for high energy physics experiments, the design and implementation of this multi-channel delay/trigger system challenged the present FPGA technology in several aspects. This VME system based on a pipeline architecture could handle 64 fast discriminator input channels with a small deadtime of 8-10 ns. These 64 input signals could be applied individually to a delay range of 2 ns to 1024 ns in the step of 2ns by a digital method, plus a delay range of 20 ps to 2ns in the minimum step of 20 ps by an anologue method, according to a programmable setting in the real time operation mode. Two level coincidence structures combine the 64 input channels to form a trigger, and the coincidence width and pattern could also be changed by control software easily. The design and implementation of this system will be addressed in detail in this talk.

LADD detector physicist candidate.
