Title: Dilepton Events at Hadron Colliders

Abstract: In the Standard Model (SM), many processes lead to a dilepton final state. This channel is sensitive to deviations from the SM predictions and could signal the presence of new physics. The Fermilab Tevatron proton-antiproton collider operates at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV (currently the highest energy frontier before the LHC). In this talk, I will review the latest CDF results from Run II data, which are based on a dilepton event signature (mainly two high-pT leptons, with missing transverse energy and jets), and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 200/pb. A primary goal of the LHC is to probe the origin of electroweak symmetry breaking. The TeV energy scale is the regime where we expect to find the Higgs boson, or some new phenomenon due to physics beyond the Standard Model. The last portion of my talk, will be devoted to Higgs expectations and signatures at the LHC, a phyics topic that I am interested in.
