Title: Electronic Eavesdropping on Nuclei - Whispers about the Charge Radii of 8,9,11Li
Abstract: Measuring the isotope shift in an electronic transition is a standard approach to obtain model-independent information about the change in nuclear charge radii for stable and radioactive isotopes. It has now been successfully applied for many decades. But since the nuclear-volume dependent effects decreases strongly for light nuclei, it could never be used for short-lived isotopes lighter than neon. Using a novel experimental technique, we succeeded in measuring the isotope shift of 8,9Li at the GSI on-line mass separator for the first time. Nuclear charge radii were extracted by comparison with high-precision mass shift calculations. Results of these measurements and the status of the preparations for an isotope shift measurement of 11Li at the ISAC facility are presented.
Stimulants available 15 min before talk.
