Title: ROME: A new framework for object-oriented data analysis with ROOT and MIDAS

Abstract: ROME is a framework generator for event based data analysis. It has been developed for the MEG Experiment at PSI Switzerland. The fundamental idea behind this tool is to make data analysis for an experimenter as easy as possible. The experimenter should not be bothered with processing an event loop, storing data to disk, reading data from a data base and so on. He should only need to write the calculations he wants to perform on the data.

In the ROME environment the experimenter defines the structure of the whole framework in a simple xml file. ROME generates out of this file all code that is needed to do the analysis, except the experiment specific calculation code. The experimenter does not need to write a single c++ class file. All he has to do, is adding the experiment specific calculation code to predefined event functions.

This tool is written in c++ and is completely object oriented. It runs under linux and windows. It uses the ROOT libraries to perform the data analysis, the libxm12 library to handle xml files, the MIDAS library to collect data online and the MySQL 4.0 library for sql database access.

Target audience: experimenters and software developers

Stimulants available 15 minutes before the talk.
