Title: Bottom up to SUSY

Abstract: The long b-quark lifetime has greatly impacted the progression of particle physics over the last twenty years. Direct consequences were B_d mixing, indirect evidence for a top quark after mixing was observed, the direct discovery of top using tagged b-jets, measurements of top quark properties after its discovery, searches for a low-mass Higgs, observation of CP Violation in the B system, search for supersymmetry, and most recently the observation of B_s mixing. The technology of particle physics experiments has also changed dramatically since the long b-lifetime was measured. Silicon vertex detectors are major components of all high energy experiments, including D0, Babar, Belle, CDF, Atlas, and CMS. The physics of the LHC is intimately tied to detecting b-jets with a lifetime tag as will be the physics program at the ILC. In addition, b-quark detection techniques are relevant to medical physics. Some of the topics along this trail will be discussed.

Stimulants available 15 minutes before the talk.
