Title: Similarity Renormalization Group and Evolution of Many-Body Forces
Abstract: I will give an brief introduction to the Similarity Renormalization Group (SRG) and the improved convergence it provides through decoupling. Improved convergence is very important to calculations of few-body observables, but many-body forces also must be treated consistently. I'll introduce some preliminary results for evolution of three-body forces in the realistic symmetrized harmonic oscillator basis calculations of the No-Core Shell Model (NCSM). A one-dimensional system of bosons with short-range repulsion and mid-range attraction is used as a laboratory, analogous to the NCSM, to explore the evolution of many-body forces by the SRG. Errors from omitted induced many-body forces show a hierarchy of decreasing contribution to binding energies. An analysis of individual contributions to the growth of many-body forces demonstrates such a hierarchy and provides an understanding of its origins. Results are presented for various investigations which are proceeding rapidly and can be directly generalized to three-dimensional nuclei with the NCSM.
