Speaker: Carl Beard (Daresbury Laboratory)
Title: ALICE Through the Looking Glass
Abstract: ALICE (Accelerator and Lasers In Combined Experiments) is a 35 MeV ERL prototype in operation at Daresbury Laboratory. This was a technology demonstrator for a high current ERL based light source, and is now a test bed for new accelerator technology and photon science. ERL driven FELs require high Q accelerating structures operating in CW mode that can demonstrate precise phase and amplitude control under heavy beam loading conditions. The ALICE cryomodule design prohibits high average current operation, and therefore a collaborative R&D programme has been set up to design and fabricate a proof of principle cryomodule that will be beam tested on ALICE and the Cornell ERL. A final exploitation of the ALICE facility will be the construction of EMMA, the worlds first non-scaling FFAG demonstrator.
Stimulants available 15 minutes before the talk.
