Title: The Statics and Dynamics of Fermi Superfluids: A Density Functional Approach
Abstract: Density Functional Theory (DFT) provides a powerful tool for studying complex behaviour in strongly interacting Fermi systems. In this talk I shall discuss a particular functional (the ASLDA) for studying strongly interacting Fermi systems such as cold atomic gasses, dilute neutron matter, and nuclear matter. I shall discuss how we benchmark this functional with systems of cold atoms, and how to use it. With modern computers, the DFT approach opens the door to a fascinating array of static and time-dependent problems. I shall review some specific applications including superfluid vortex structure and dynamics, the prediction of an exotic fermionic supersolid phase of matter, and plans to study neutron stars and nuclear fission.
Stimulants available 15 minutes before the talk.
