Title: Quantum Monte Carlo calculations of hypernuclei
Abstract: Several studies suggest that, in neutron stars at densities larger
than 0.32 fm-3, new hadronic degrees of freedom, in addition to
neutrons and protons, may appear. Hyperons are the most likely such
hadrons so that including hyperons in the nuclear matter equation of state
will be needed to correctly describe properties and evolution of
neutron stars. The equation of state of neutron matter can be
accurately computed using auxiliary field diffusion Monte Carlo,
but our knowledge of the nucleon-hyperon interaction is at present
very poor. In addition to few available scattering data, hypernuclear
spectroscopy taken at BNL-AGS, KEK, and Jlab in last 3 decades
provides us informations about hypernuclei, and new coming facilities,
at first J-Parc, will give us more and richer data.
I will briefly show how hyperons can be included in the Auxiliary
Field Diffusion Monte Carlo method, and then I will discuss some
results of applying it to the ground-states of hypernuclei. I will
discuss how these results can be used to improve the nucleon-hyperon
and nucleon-nucleon-hyperon potentials and the prospects for an accurate
nuclear equation of state including hyperons.
