Title: Report from the Canadian Light Source Workshop on Coherent Synchrotron Radiation Impedance

Abstract: This talk is a brief report from a 2-day workshop held at the Canadian Light Source (CLS)on the topic Coherent Synchrotron Radiation Impedance - motivated by the observation of terahertz radiation with a comb-like frequency structure, an as yet unexplained phenomenon. Synchrotron radiation is the electromagnetic wave energy emitted by charged particles immersed in a magnetic field. Light sources such as the CLS, Saskatoon, rely on this mechanism to generate a variety of intense light from infrared to x-ray. When the separation of emitting sources is smaller than a wavelength, the light becomes coherent and far brighter. The emitted power is P=I*I*R where beam current I and radiation impedance R are both frequency dependent. The workshop examined possible mechanisms that may result in electron bunches and vacuum box impedance, both with very high frequency content.
