Title:     The Power of Holography

Abstract: In this talk, I'll review a variety of recent applications of the proposed gauge theory / gravity duality (a generalization of the AdS/CFT correspondence). These include the construction of QCD-like theories whose properties can be studied analytically, the demonstration and analysis of confinement/deconfinement transitions induced by cosmological acceleration, and the analysis of strongly coupled models for cosmological inflation. I'll also describe how the correspondence leads to new insights into classical and quantum gravity, including a connection between fluid dynamics and black hole dynamics, and a connection between quantum information theory and the fundamental emergence of spacetime.
