Speaker: York Haemish (Philips Digital Photon Counting)

Title: Fully digital arrays of light sensors enabling true photon counting with high temporal and spatial resolution

Abstract: I will present a new kind of light sensors based on addressable micro-Avalanche PhotoDiode (APD) cells operated in Geiger-mode. APD fabrication and CMOS process are integrated resulting in digital front end, using the APD micro-cells as digital elements. The device provides 2 digital outputs: number of photons and timing information. Timing can be obtained by first photon triggering for example for Time Of Flight applications. The intrinsic timing resolution is 40 ps. The digital SPM achieves lower dark count rate and reduced temperature sensitivity than comparable analog devices. Four side buttable tiles of 8 x 8 pixels (covering 10.63 cm²) have been assembled, tested and characterized.

Stimulants available 15 minutes before the talk.
