Title: Report on Heavy Ion Accelerator Facility upgrade at the Australian National University
Abstract: This past year has seen substantial expenditure on upgrades and the
hiring of three more technical staff. I will report on the major upgrade
projects and give more detail on selected projects. Here, I will just
list the topics: (1) new accelerator computer control and data
acquisition systems; (2) replacement vacuum pumps, gauges, major magnet
power supplies by modern systems. Integration with new computer control;
(3) automated tuning of the beam transport, fully equipping with BPMs and
Faraday Cups allowing optimal beam focusing; (4) new Terminal Potential
Stabilisation system including Generating Volt Meter, Slits and CPO
amplifiers and corona probe controller; (5) topping up SF6 gas to allow
optimum tank pressure and upgrade SF6 monitoring system. New fast SF6
containment valves; (6) implementation oxygen depletion monitoring
system to make safer cryogenic operations and SF6 handling; (7)
enhancement AMS and RIB capabilities and new beam lines; (8) enhancement
Linac and its cryogenic system; (9) upgrade low and high energy beam
pulsing systems. I will also give a brief overview of accelerator
facilities and collaborations in Australia.
Stimulants available 15 minutes before the talk.
