Title: Current and Future Nuclear Spectroscopy Experiments with LaBr3(Ce) Detectors
Abstract: The use of halide scintillation detectors for nuclear spectroscopy measurements is well established. Cerium-doped Lanthanium tribroimide (LaBr3(Ce)) detectors offer excellent timing properties together with acceptable energy resolution for gamma-ray measurements. Multidetector arrays of such detectors offer the potential for enhanced spectroscopic measurement of decays following beta or isomeric decay of exotic nuclei, allowing both gamma-ray energy identification together with sufficient timing information to establish electromagnetic reduced matrix probabilities between some well defined nuclear states of interest. This talk will introduce the use of LaBr3 detectors for nuclear (gamma-ray) spectroscopic information and show some experimental results from recent studies at the Bucharest tandem accelerator facility using a mixed germanium-LaBr3(Ce) array of detectors to determine EM transition rates from negative parity intruder states approaching the N~20 island of inversion and across a range of N=82 isotones. Future prospects of the use of such detectors for decays studies of very exotic nuclei produced at RIB facilities will also be discussed, with a brief discussion of the proposed NUSTAR Fast-Timing Array.
