Date/Time: Tue 2011-11-22 at 14:00
Location: Auditorium
Speaker: Leandro Piazza, Mario Maggiore, Daniela Campo (INFN-LNL Nat. Lab, INFN-LNS Lab, Italy.)
Title: SPES Project: a Neutron Rich ISOL Facility for re-accelerated RIBs etc.
Abstract: Leandro Piazza: SPES Project: a Neutron Rich ISOL Facility for re-accelerated RIBs;
Mario Maggiore: Status of the RFQ Beam Cooler Study for SPES Project;
Daniela Campo: Multi Megawatt Cyclotrons for the DAEDALUS Project.
The first two titles are self explanatory and do not require abstracts. For the third-one,
re. the cyclotrons for DAEDALUS, the abstract is as following:
Abstract: DAEDALUS, a Decay-at-rest experiment for delta_CP studies at
the Laboratory for Underground Science, provides a new approach to the
search for CP violation in the neutrino sector. The design utilizes
low-cost, high-power proton accelerators under development for
commercial uses. These provide neutrino beams with energy up to 52 MeV
from pion and muon decay-at-rest. The experiment searches for neutrino
decays at short baselines corresponding to the atmospheric region. The
anti e-neutrinos will be detected via inverse beta decay, in the 300
kton ducial-volume Gd-doped water Cherenkov neutrino detector proposed
for the Deep Underground Science and Engineering Laboratory (DUSEL). The
complex accelerator based on two Multi Megawatt Cyclotrons are under
study at the LNS in Catania, in collaboration with MIT. The
preliminary design will be shown and discussed.
Stimulants available 15 minutes before the talk.
