Title: Brown-Rho scaling & Three-body forces in nuclear matter and neutron stars
Abstract: We have studied the effects of the Brown-Rho (BR) scalings and three-nucleon
forces in nuclear matter, especially about its saturation properties,
and neutron stars. The use of the two-nucleon interactions alone is unable
to reproduce the empirical nuclear matter properties. The inclusion of the
linear BR scaling, where the mesons constituting the NN potential are scaled
with the nuclear medium density, can restore the nuclear saturation. But the
resulting equation of state (EOS) is too stiff at high densities. Two
non-linear BR scalings, one of them proposed by Ericson, have been considered;
both give EOSs with satisfactory saturation properties and in good agreement
the empirical constraint of Danilewicz et al. We have also calculated the
nuclear symmetry energies, and the results with the non-linear scalings are in
good agreement with the empirical results of Li et al. and Tsang et al. The
inclusion of such scaling effects is important in making the calculated neutron
star properties in good agreement with the empirical ones; the neutron stars'
maximum mass obtained with (without) such scalings is respectively 1.80(1.24)
mass of the Sun.
We have also calulated the nuclear matter EOS including both two-nucleon
interaction and a chiral three-body potential. The dependence of the nuclear
matter EOS on the low-energy constants is discussed. For a certain choice of
these parameters, a satisfactory EOS is obtained.
