Title: Guiding translational medicine with radiopharmaceuticals: From small molecules, to proteins and beyond

Abstract: Translational medicine, the science of taking basic bench research to the patient and back, can be greatly facilitated with radiopharmaceutical technologies that enable early diagnoses, prognostication, and personalized treatments for diseases including cancer, inflammation, and neurodegenerative diseases. This seminar will highlight the pursuit of radiolabeled small molecules, proteins, and nanomaterials within an interdisciplinary space necessary to evaluate and validate novel diagnostics, and promising therapeutics. This comprehensive approach to T1 translational research for guiding discoveries to the clinical domain integrates radiopharmaceutical probe design and synthesis, pharmacology, drug delivery, small animal imaging, and therapy designed for various biomedical applications. Medical radioisotopes used include 18F, 125/124/131I, 211At, and 90Y. Moreover, prospects of research and development of radiopharmaceuticals in the near future will be discussed, with the goal to extend successful agents towards future human clinical applications.

Refreshments 15 minutes before the talk.
