Title: Muons at the intensity frontier
Abstract: Muons play a special role in searching for New Physics at the
intensity frontier. Their decay distributions and the anomalous
magnetic moment constrain New Physics parameters.
Lepton-flavor violating muon decays are suppressed in the Standard
Model so their observation will clearly indicate nonstandard
interactions. Many New Physics models predict that a muon bound to a
nucleus can undergo a conversion into an electron. A dangerous
background for searches of the conversion is a high-energy electron
from a standard bound muon decay.
In my talk I will discuss the recent progress in the evaluation of
selected muonic properties, particularly the electron spectrum in the
bound muon decay. I will present a recent analysis that brings the
TWIST measurement of this spectrum into a better agreement with the
Standard Model.
