Title: Nuclear moments and charge radii of neutron deficient Fr isotopes and isomers
Abstract: Measurements using laser spectroscopic methods provide access to some of the most fundamental properties of nuclei. A complete measurement of atomic hyperfine structure can allow for the investigation of both quantum (for example spin and magnetic dipole moments) as well as collective (electric quadrupole moments and RMS charge radii) properties. Where access can be obtained to a chain of isotopes the evolution of these properties across different regions of the nuclear chart can be investigated.
Prior to work on francium starting at TRIUMF the range of neutron deficient isotopes studied ($^{207-213}$Fr) showed a remarkable adherence to a single particle structure outside of a Pb core. Recent, high resolution measurements have extended this region out to $^{204}$Fr, beyond the expected neutron subshell closure at N=118. Here, long lived, nuclear isomeric states, previously postulated from the observations of the decay out, have for the first time been positively identified. These, recently published results will be presented.
