Title: The first muon anti-neutrino disappearance results from T2K

Abstract: The T2K ("Tokai to Kamioka") experiment is a long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiment in Japan. A beam of muon neutrinos or muon anti-neutrinos is produced at the Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex (J-PARC) in Tokai. The unoscillated neutrino flux is measured by the near detector complex 280 m from the proton target, and the oscillated neutrino flux is measured by the far detector, Super-Kamiokande, 295 km away. Using a beam of muon neutrinos, T2K has produced the world's most precise measurement of neutrino mixing angle theta_{23} by measuring muon neutrino disappearance, and discovered muon neutrino to electron neutrino oscillation by measuring electron neutrino appearance. Since the summer of 2014, T2K has been taking data using a beam of muon anti-neutrinos. This talk will discuss the first result using anti-neutrino beam mode data: a muon anti-neutrino disappearance measurement. Comparing this measurement to the previous muon neutrino disappearance measurement provides a test of the conservation of CPT symmetry, since CPT symmetry requires the disappearance rate to be the same for muon neutrinos and muon anti-neutrinos. In the future, an electron anti-neutrino appearance measurement will be performed, and comparing it to the electron neutrino appearance measurement will provide a probe of CP violation in the lepton sector.
