Title:     State of the art of beyond mean field theories with applications to light exotic nuclei

Abstract: In a first step a long introduction to the concept of the mean field approach, with illustrative examples familiar to everyone, will be provided. The basic mean field approaches has been widely used to describe bulk properties of ground states of nuclei, like masses, quadrupole moments, radii, etc.

The second part of the talk is devoted to present the state of the art of  beyond mean field theories. We will show that these approaches have developed  into a powerful tool to describe high quality nuclear spectroscopy.

In the third part of the talk applications to the description of the spectrum and transition probabilities of the challenging nucleus 44S as well as the Mg isotopes will be provided. All the calculations have been performed with the finite range density dependent Gogny force.
