Title: Improving in-medium similarity renormalization group methods via approximate inclusion of three-body effects
Abstract: The in-medium similarity renormalization group (IM-SRG) is one of a few highly successful ab-initio many-body methods that has proved capable of treating medium mass nuclei. While initially only applicable to calculations of doubly closed shell ground states, it has recently been used to create effective interactions for use in shell-model valence spaces. Despite the IM-SRG's wide applicability and versatility, it has been difficult to quantify the errors introduced when solving the IM-SRG equations truncated at the two-body level. A recent alternative method of solution allows for approximate and affordable handling of these induced three-body forces. Preliminary results demonstrating how to include approximate three-body effects in ground state calculations of closed shell systems will be presented. The path forward for extending these improvements to any version of truncated IM-SRG application will be also be presented.
