Title: Perspectives in Low-Energy Nuclear Physics

Abstract: Low-energy nuclear physics is undergoing an important paradigm shift. The field is moving towards a comprehensive and precise understanding of nuclear structure and nuclear reactions, both, experimentally and theoretically. At the same time, nuclear structure connects very different areas of modern physics - all the way from fundamental aspects of the strong interaction to astrophysical objects and processes. All of this leads to new perspectives in low-energy nuclear physics, which are driving the field today.

I will discuss these new perspectives in very general terms, with an emphasis on nuclear theory. Based on selected examples, I will illustrate how recent developments have changed the character of nuclear theory and how this benefits nuclear physics in general.
