Title: Spin squeezed 171Yb atomic clock beyond the standard quantum limit
Abstract: Optical lattice clocks have achieved the precision of 10^{-18}, and are aiming to attain even higher precision. One of the limiting factors is the standard quantum limit (SQL) of the quantum projection noise occurring when the state of the atoms is measured. This limit has been overcome in spin squeezed atomic clocks on a microwave transition. We apply this technique to an ytterbium optical lattice clock operating on an optical transition and try to exceed the SQL. In this talk, I will briefly mention the theoretical background of the spin squeezing, and describe the experimental setup and preliminary results of our experiment.
