Title: Digging deeper for New Physics at the LHC

Abstract: I will discuss a new model-independent technique for identifying “hot spots” in the increasingly large and complex LHC dataset. A typical analysis (particularly from CMS) now includes up to hundreds of signal regions, potentially obscuring the presence of anomalies in the data. I will present several ~3sigma excesses present in the CMS jets+MET SUSY searches, and focus on an excess characterized by low jet multiplicity, low transverse momentum and low missing energy. I will discuss how a simple model can fit this excess and simultaneously explain a ~2sigma excess present in the ATLAS monojet search, as well as ways to enhance signal over background to exclude or possibly confirm this with new data collected in 2017.
