Title:     Shape Coexistence: A Portal to the Islands of Inversion

Abstract: In this talk this I will discuss how the the competition between the spherical mean field (monopole hamiltonian) and the nuclear correlations (multipole hamiltonian) drives the phenomenon of shape coexistence in atomic nuclei.  Shape coexistence in doubly magic nuclei will be shown to be the portal to the Islands of Inversion (IoI) in neutron rich semi-magic nuclei.  I will compare the Shell Model predictions with experimental data at the N=20, 28, 40 and N=50 IoI's and show how the N=40 and N=50 IoI's merge in for Z=26 and below.
