Speaker: Rejean Fontaine (Universite de Sherbrooke)

Title: Electronics for high resolution and time of flight Positron Emission Tomography scanners at Université de Sherbrooke

Abstract: This talk will review the history of the electronics dedicated to PET in Sherbrooke and the future challenges and outcomes of a 10 picoseconds timing resolution in PET.
Pr. Réjean Fontaine Eng. Ph.D. has a full professor position in the electrical engineering and computer engineering at Université de Sherbrooke. In close collaboration with his colleague Roger Lecomte, physicist at U. Sherbrooke, Pr Fontaine's team successfully designed the electronics and firmware of the LabPET I and LabPET II scanners thanks to his broad background in electronics as well as in project management of large projects/research groups. Pr Fontaine's expertise covers application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) design, high-speed and high-density interconnect printed circuit boards, embedded real time firmware and software programing in field programmable gate arrays and digital signal processors. He is also the founder and director of the design and packaging laboratory (2012) where he is developing advanced surface mount assembly, ASIC packaging (solder bumps, gold to gold bumping, flip chip, wire bonding) as well as 2.5D assembly on PCB and silicon interposers. He is also the cofounder and codirector of the Center of excellence in intelligent microsystems at U. Sherbrooke (2016). Finally, he obtained a Canada research chair tier 1 on Positron Emission Tomography based on Photon Time of Flight.
