Title: Determining nucleon self-energies to analyze nuclear reactions and predict neutron distributions
Abstract: Nuclear reactions are a common tool for probing atomic nuclei. Typically, these reactions are described by employing optical potentials. When analyzed using Green's function formalism, it is evident that the optical potential corresponds to the nucleon self-energy. This connection leads to the Dispersive Optical Model (DOM) which has been used to analyze nuclei such as 40Ca and 48Ca using the full treatment of nonlocality. The DOM is particularly well-suited to analyze knockout and transfer reactions such as 40Ca(e,e'p)39K, 40Ca(d,p), and 40Ca(p,2p), since both bound and continuum states are needed to calculate their respective cross-sections. The DOM self-energy can also be used to calculate neutron and proton point-distributions, resulting in a large neutron skin in 48Ca. In addition to these calculations, the DOM self-energy serves as a guide for developing an ab-initio optical potential from a realistic nucleon-nucleon interaction using Green's function methods.
