Title: Probing new physics with the heaviest elementary particles: A systematic study of the electroweak scale and the search for new phenomena

Abstract: The ATLAS experiment located at CERN along the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) offers a window into the universe at the TeV-scale. The discovery of the Higgs boson in 2012 is one of the key cornerstones of the vast physics program. The LHC continues to highlight the overwhelming success of the Standard Model with recent Higgs results. However, many questions remain unresolved. I will begin by discussing some of the state-of-the-art analysis techniques used to measure the Higgs boson in fermionic decay channels. These measurements, with increasing precision, are some of the most important tests of the Standard Model. I will also highlight new avenues for Dark Matter discovery at the LHC in similar final states. A key example of this are new electroweak SUSY searches which over the next several years will improve on past results from LEP. These searches offer a first view into new production mechanisms for SUSY. I will conclude by discussing the outlook for Run-3 of the LHC (2021-2024) and the High Luminosity-LHC (beyond 2026) with several important new detector related developments.
