Title: Particle Physics in the Gravitational Wave Era

Abstract: In this talk I will discuss various connections between gravitational waves and particle physics. The first part focuses on current measurements of neutron star mergers as a probe of long-range forces. In this context I will focus on dark matter and new flavoured gauge symmetries such as Lmu-Ltau, where sensitivity in the latter case arises from the large inevitable abundance of muons in neutron stars. In the second part of my talk I will turn to future experiments as probes of stochastic gravitational wave backgrounds. Here, first-order phase transitions provide a direct connection to underlying particle physics models. I will discuss signatures arising from sequential stages of symmetry breakings associated to the dynamical generation of flavour structure as well as the observability of phase transitions in partially thermalised hidden sectors.
