Title:     Dynamical Evidence for a Fifth Force from the ATOMKI Anomalies

Abstract: Recent results from the ATOMKI collaboration in the decays of excited beryllium and helium nuclei and kinematically consistent, in that they can both be explained by a new boson with a mass near 17 MeV. In this talk I investigate the dynamical consistency of the two results, that is whether a single set of particle interactions fit the experimental observations. I show that a new spin-0 particle is disfavored when both results are taken together. I also show that a new spin-1 particle can explain both anomalies and outline further measurements which could be used to confirm the fifth force hypothesis.
